If you’re near the Loop Campus tonight, there’s another great reading taking place at the DePaul Center Barnes & Noble.

This Thursday, March 8th, the poet Michael Warr is reading from his new collection, The Armageddon of Funk, at the Barnes & Noble in the DePaul Center downtown. The event takes place at 6 p.m. John Zeigler of DePaul’s Urban Egan Center will be doing the introductions.

Michael Warr’s literary awards include a Gwendolyn Brooks Significant Illinois Poets Award, a NEA Creative Writing Fellowship for Poetry, a Ragdale Foundation US – Africa Fellowship, and The Beat Museum Poet of the Month. His first book of poems, We Are All The Black Boy, was honored by the Illinois Library Association. He is a co-editor of Power Lines: A Decade of Poetry From Chicago’s Guild Complex. His poems are included in many anthologies.

• Unnatural Spaces Open Rehearsal on Thursday, March 8th from 7:30-9:00 pm – Get a sneak peak at the creative process behind the Poetry Performance Incubator’s new work-in-progress, Unnatural Spaces. This event will take place at the Incubator’s rehearsal space at 3429 W. Diversey Avenue, Suite 208.
• Palabra Pura “Forgiveness & Memory” on Wednesday, March 21st at 7:30 pm – Our bilingual poetry series continues with a themed evening of “Forgiveness and Memory” curated by Yolanda Nieves and featuring poets Lisa Alvarado and Kristiana Rae Colón. This event will take place at La Bruquena Restaurant (upstairs), 2726 W. Division.
• Applied Words “Creative Writing as a Tool of Social Activism” on Wednesday, March 28th at 6:30 pm – The evening will include pre-reading drinks and snacks, an open mic, and featured readers Michelle Boyd, Sage Xaxua Morgan-Hubbard and Brenda Parker. This event is being co-sponsored by the Institute for Research on Race & Public Policy’s Narrative Nonfiction Working Group at UIC, and the UIC English Department’s Program for Writers.
