McKinsey Publishing Seeking to Fill Two Positions

TITLE: Editorial Assistant, McKinsey Publishing

Open-ended, full-time contract position (35 hrs/wk+)

JOB SCOPE:

For content published in the printed McKinsey Quarterly and/or on the Insights & Publications section of mckinsey.com, the following activities may apply:

 

  • Fact-check and proofread articles, exhibits, multimedia products, videos, and social-media assets
  • Manage critical, time-sensitive process of securing internal approval of all client mentions before publication
  • Secure final author sign-off of all content, working with editors to ensure final revisions are appropriately incorporated
  • Provide support in tracking and communicating the status of articles and accompanying assets, liaising with designers, editors, freelancers, and print and web production staff to ensure on-deadline task completion
  • Assist in reviewing final printer proofs of Quarterly issues
  • As needed, provide backup for the following activities:
  • copyediting and SEO-tagging content for digital publication
  • proofing articles on the site; reviewing articles in the McKinsey Insights iPad and Android app
  • copyediting and/or proofing editorial e-mailings

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks while maintaining high-quality standards; keen attention to detail and strong reading comprehension of complex subject matter
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to interact productively with McKinsey consultants/authors, editors, and freelancers
  • Journalism degree, experience in a deadline-oriented editorial-production environment, and/or experience with business-management content is preferable
  • PC proficiency in a Windows environment including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, and Illustrator desired. Familiarity with online content-management systems (eg, Sitecore) and e-mailing platforms (eg, Epsilon/DREAM) a plus
  • Familiarity with The Chicago Manual of Style

 

TITLE: Digital Editorial Assistant, McKinsey Publishing

Open-ended, full-time contract position (35 hrs/wk+)

JOB SCOPE:

The Digital Editorial Assistant supports the creation and publication of knowledge on the website of a leading professional-services firm, as well as its dissemination via associated e-mailings and a mobile app. Candidate will ensure all digital assets are proofed, formatted properly, adhere to style guidelines, and support optimal user experience. He or she will assist in tracking assets and providing project-management support for digital and mobile special projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

— Proofread content, provide a comparative proof upon layout, and approve all new material (text articles, exhibits, infographics, videos, interactive features, and other multimedia) posted to the Insights & Publications section of mckinsey.com.

— Proof and approve content on the McKinsey Insights iOS and Android app.

— Proof and approve e-mailings promoting new content.

— Coordinate with web production staff, using the content-management system as needed, to correct errors until final approval of all assets is secured.

— For issues requiring editorial and/or design judgment, coordinate with editors, designers, and web production staff to arrive at optimal solution, and implement.

— Track and communicate progress of work, and identify and problem-solve any roadblocks to successful, on-deadline task completion.

— For select content, provide SEO tags, copyedit, fact-check, and internally syndicate articles.

— Assist in tracking and communicating the status of digital assets and resolving delays.

— Provide project-management support for special projects such as e-mail testing or content migration.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Strong copyediting, proofreading, and critical-reading skills a must, as are keen attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks while maintaining high-quality standards.

 

Strong background in a deadline-oriented editorial-production environment is preferable, along with a high comfort level and work experience with digital and mobile products. Experience with business-management content or work in a professional-services firm a plus.

 

PC proficiency in a Windows environment including MS Word and Excel. Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, and Illustrator desired. Familiarity with online content-management systems (eg, Sitecore) and e-mailing platforms (eg, Epsilon/DREAM) a plus.
