Reed Magazine is seeking submissions for consideration for their 160th anniversary issue until October 1st. While still accepting submissions across all genres (Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, Poetry and Visual Art), they’re particularly searching for thought-provoking Creative Nonfiction submissions.

Tracing its heritage to 1867, Reed is California’s oldest literary journal and annually publishes cutting-edge fiction, poetry, essays, profiles, and art from around the world. Reed features the works of emerging authors alongside established literary luminaries. They’ve published nonfiction by Pulitzer Prize winner William Finnegan, verse by U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Hass, fiction by PEN/Faulkner winner T. C. Boyle, and National Book Award winner Ursula K. Le Guin.
Reed also hosts annual awards in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and art, with winners selected by new guest judges each year. Their John Steinbeck Award, Gabriele Rico Challenge, Edwin Markham Prize, and Mary Blair Award all come with significant cash prizes.
This year, the John Steinbeck Award’s guest judge is Joy Castro, winner of the International Latino Book Award and Nebraska Book Award and a past finalist for the PEN Center USA Literary Award. The Gabriele Rico Challenge for Nonfiction is judged by Suzanne Rico, the Edwin Markham Prize for Poetry by Anthony Cody, and the Mary Blair Award for Art by Eddie Cola.
