Oct. 15 Talk With Miles Harvey and Chris Solís Green

Authors and DePaul Professors Miles Harvey and Chris Solís Green will be in conversation about “The Literature of Disappearance: Poetry and Prose.” They will also discuss the challenges and triumphs of starting a small press, Big Shoulders Books.

The talk will take place on Thursday, October 15th at 6 p.m. at DePaul’s John T. Richardson Library, Room 103. It is free and open to the public

Miles Harvey won the 2024 Society of Midland Authors Adult Fiction Award and the 2023 Journal Non/Fiction Prize for The Registry of Forgotten Objects, a collection of short stories. He is the author of three books of nonfiction, The King of Confidence, Painter in a Savage Land and The Island of Lost Maps, a national and international bestseller. He teaches creative writing at DePaul University and is a founding editor of Big Shoulders Books, a nonprofit, social-justice publisher.

Chris Solís Green is the author of five books of poetry: The Sky Over Walgreens, Epiphany School, Résumé,Everywhere West, and The Dead Zoo (Bee Box Press, 2025). His poems have appeared in such publications as Poetry and The New York Times. He is a founding editor of Big Shoulders Books, which aims to disseminate works of writing by and about Chicagoans whose voices might not otherwise be heard, free of charge. He has edited four anthologies, including I Remember: Chicago Veterans of War, American Gun: A Poem by 100 Chicagoans, and Chicago Mosaic: Immigrant Stories of Objects Kept, Lost, or Left Behind. He is also the founding editor of the annual anthology DePaul’s Blue Book: Best American High School Writing. Currently, he serves as a Distinguished Writer in Residence at DePaul University.
