Fifth Wednesday Journal is accepting submissions of short essays of 800 words or fewer on the subject of small literary magazines and the advance toward a digital world for literature. The winning essayist will receive a one-year subscription to Fifth Wednesday Journal and a FWJ T-shirt, and his or her essay will appear in FWJ’s fall issue and blog. The Sun, an independent, ad-free nonprofit magazine founded in 1974, is hiring a business manager and associate editor in its Chapel Hill, North Carolina, editorial office. The monthly magazine publishes personal essays, short stories, interviews, poetry, and photographs. The ideal candidate should be prepared to make at least a five-year commitment to The Sun.

Narrative awards the $4,000 Narrative Prize annually for the best short story, novel excerpt, poem, one-act play, graphic story, or work of literary nonfiction that a new or emerging writer publishes in Narrative. Writers can submit their work here. The deadline for this year’s prize is June 15, 2015.

Argonne National Laboratory is hiring a part-time scientific writing coach this summer. The writing coach will help undergraduates in Argonne Education’s 10-week intensive science internship program put together abstracts, scientific reports, and poster presentations. The coach will also provide the summer interns with writing resources, advise students during office hours and one-on-one tutoring sessions, and work with the Argonne team to improve the summer internship program. The inaugural Chicago Young Adult Book Fest will take place on Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. After checking out a variety of panels with YA authors at Conrad Sulzer Regional Library (4455 North Lincoln Avenue, Chicago, IL 60618), attendees can make their way over to The Book Cellar for a reception and book signing.
