Upcoming Chicago Writers Conference (CWC) Events

Tuesday, March 31: CWC‘s annual benefit to support scholarships for literacy tutors takes place at Mrs. Murphy & Sons Irish Bistro in Lakeview. Mike Stephen from WGN Radio emcees Bad Poetry Night, featuring local personalities, such as Tasha Robinson from The Dissolve. Thursday, April 16: In Under 30/Over 60, a crossgenerational reading event at The Book Cellar in Lincoln Square, Chicago writers—all younger than 30 or older than 60—share stories on the theme “What I Wish I Knew.” Friday, May 1: CWC is hosting Asian American Authors Night in conjunction with its partner, Open Books. This panel discussion features four Asian American writers working in Chicago.

Tuscany Prize for Catholic Fiction (Deadline: 6/30/15)

VSC/Luce Foundation Chinese Poetry and Translation Fellowships (Deadline: 4/1/15)

The Vermont Studio Center (VSC) and Henry Luce Foundation are accepting applications for their Chinese Poetry and Translation Fellowships Program. The application deadline is April 1, 2015. In 2015, VSC will award 12 Chinese poets and literary translators with month-long joint residencies to create new work, both individually and in collaboration.

NAR’s Inaugural Torch Memorial Prize for Creative Nonfiction (Deadline: 4/1/15)

The North American Review is accepting submissions for its inaugural Torch Memorial Prize for Creative Nonfiction, which commemorates writer and teacher Rafael Torch. The submission deadline is April 1, 2015. Eula Biss will judge the contest. The winner will receive $500 and publication in North American Review.

New Letters Literary Awards (Deadline: 5/18/15)

New Letters is accepting entries for its annual literary awards. Writers can submit their work here for a $25/entry reading fee. New Letters will award the following prizes: $1,500 New Letters Prize for Poetry for the best group of three to six poems $1,500 Dorothy Cappon Prize for the best Essay $1,500 Alexander Cappon Prize for Fiction for the best short story The submission deadline is May 18, 2015.

Crossing Boundaries: Second Annual LAS Interdisciplinary Graduate Student Conference

Crossing Boundaries, the second annual LAS interdisciplinary graduate student conference, is taking place on Friday, March 6, 2015, in McGowan South (1110 West Belden Avenue). The day’s events—which run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.—include a faculty panel; poster presentations and paper panels featuring DePaul graduate student work; a keynote address by associate professor of English Miles Harvey; and a reception.
