The Office of Adult Student Affairs invites all DePaul graduate students to the Graduate Thesis and Dissertation Conference on Saturday, February 21. This free event, which includes lunch, will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Center on the Lincoln Park campus. Students can register for the conference here.
The Kenyon Review is accepting submissions of up to 1,200 words for its 2015 Short Fiction Contest. The submission deadline is February 28, 2015. The $18 entry fee includes a one-year subscription to the journal. Writers may enter their work here. The Kenyon Review will publish the winning short story in the Jan/Feb 2016 issue, and the author will receive a scholarship to attend the 2015 Kenyon Review Writers Workshop (Session I: June 13–20) in Gambier, Ohio.
Each year, Black Lawrence Press awards the Hudson Prize for an unpublished collection of poems or short stories. The winner of this contest receives book publication, a $1,000 award, and ten copies of the book. The submission deadline for the 2015 Hudson Prize is March 31, 2015. The PEN American Center is accepting submissions for its new PEN/Fusion Emerging Writers Prize, which will recognize an unpublished work of nonfiction that addresses a global and/or multicultural issue. Young writers (younger than 35) who have had at least one prior publication in a national magazine or journal may submit their work. The winner will receive a $10,000 prize. The submission deadline is February 27, 2015. This year’s judges are John Freeman, Roxane Gay, and Cristina Henríquez.
The North American Review is accepting proposals for this summer’s bicentennial conference. The creative writing and literature conference will take place at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls June 11–13, 2015. Students may submit proposals for individual papers, panels (three to four panelists), or roundtable discussions (four to six participants). The submission deadline is February 22, 2015. AWP is offering three scholarships of $500 each to emerging writers who wish to attend a writers’ conference, center, retreat, festival, or residency. See AWP’s Directory of Conferences & Centers for a list of eligible programs. The winners and six finalists will also receive a one-year individual AWP membership. The contest will accept entries via Submittable through March 30, 2015. This year’s judges are Xu Xi for creative nonfiction, Matt Bell for fiction, and Sandra Beasley for poetry.
Arch Street Press is accepting fiction and nonfiction submissions of up to 10,000 words for its annual Arch Street Prize. US college and graduate students aged 18–30 may enter the competition. Each winner will receive a book contract, mentoring program, and $1,000 cash prize. The submission deadline is April 24, 2015.
DePaul graduate students and alumni can register for DePaul’s eighth annual Career Week—a series of networking events, webinars, workshops, and other professional development opportunities—here. Career Week takes place on the Loop and Lincoln Park campuses as well as via the interwebs. Most Career Week activities are free. One notable exception is the Networking Happy Hour at BlackFinn Ameripub in River North. The $15 registration fee for the February 12 event covers appetizers and two drink tickets. The submission period for the annual Crazyhorse Prizes in Fiction, Nonfiction, and Poetry is drawing to a close this Saturday, January 31, 2015. Writers may submit short stories or essays (25 pages max) or up to three poems. The $20 entry fee includes a one-year Crazyhorse subscription. Each winner will receive $2,000 and publication.

Nonprofit arts organization Chicago Artists Resource is looking for a web intern. The unpaid internship requires a time commitment of 15–20 hours per week for six months.
