ENG 475 (Topics in Literature: Digital Humanities), previously scheduled for Wednesday evenings, will now meet on Monday evenings instead. View the updated winter course descriptions here. Winter quarter registration opened on Monday, October 20, and will continue through Friday, October 24. On Friday, October 31, story aficionados can celebrate Halloween with 7 Stories: Bird Eat Bird at Martinʼs Corner Bar in Pilsen (2056 West 22nd Place). Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m.  What to Expect: Emerging writers share their stories in collaborative performances that incorporate live music and visual projection. During intermission, audience members can come onstage to tell brief unscripted stories and compete for free beer. There will also be a costume contest with a cash prize. In January, the Reader will publish its 15th annual Pure Fiction issue, a collection of short stories submitted by mostly local fiction writers paired with illustrations by mostly local artists. The submission deadline is November 15. Submit stories of up to 3,000 words to fiction@chicagoreader.com. The Reader accepts multiple submissions and pays writers for the stories it publishes. Teachers, you all on the front lines of molding young minds—this one’s for you. In Fact Books, a new book imprint supported by the Creative Nonfiction Foundation, is putting together a Becoming a Teacher anthology. It’s accepting submissions from elementary and secondary school teachers through March 9, 2015. Essays must be previously unpublished and no longer than 4,500 words.  Submit your true stories and read the guidelines here.

This Saturday, October 18, join DePaul visiting assistant professor Kathleen Rooney for Archive, a live magazine show extravaganza. The event, which closes out the inaugural Lit & Luz Festival, takes place at Co-Prosperity Sphere (3221 South Morgan Street, Chicago, IL 60608).
