7 Stories: Unscripted on Friday, September 26

One example of Chicago’s thriving live lit scene, 7 Stories: Unscripted takes over Martinʼs Corner Bar in Pilsen (2056 West 22nd Place) this Friday, September 26, at 9 p.m. Emerging writers share their stories in collaborative performances that incorporate live music and visual projection. During intermission, audience members can come onstage to tell brief unscripted stories and compete for free beer. The Group Project produces 7 Stories on the last Friday of each month. Call for Abstracts: Center for Renaissance Studies’ 2015 Graduate Student Conference (Deadline: 10/15/14)

The Center for Renaissance Studies is accepting abstracts for 20-minute papers for its 2015 multidisciplinary graduate student conference (January 22–24, 2015). The conference welcomes proposals from master’s or PhD students from any discipline on any medieval, Renaissance, or early modern topic in Europe, the Americas, or the Mediterranean world. 2015 Vine Leaves Vignette Collection Award (Deadline: 2/28/15)

The Vine Leaves Vignette Collection Award is open for submissions. Writers may enter a 50- to 60-page manuscript of vignettes. The winner receives a $500 prize, publication by Vine Leaves Press, and 20 copies of his or her book. The deadline is February 28, 2015. Submit your manuscript here.

Alumni Updates: Adam Dick

Congratulations to alumnus Adam Dick! NightLights, an independent feature film he produced, enjoyed an initial weeklong run at Laemmle’s Music Hall 3 in Beverly Hills and earned a positive review in the Los Angeles Times. These days, Adam is “generally working on writing scripts and getting films made.” He recently optioned a Holocaust survivor’s memoir and plans to develop it into a miniseries.

Submit Abstracts for 2015 Disability Studies Conference (Deadline: 9/30/14)

The Caribbean Chapter of the College English Association (CEA-CC) is accepting paper proposals for its 2015 annual conference, which will take place at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez March 12–13, 2015. The topic is Disability Studies. As the website states, “We welcome papers that investigate the cultural, social and political interactions of the humanities (arts, language and literature) and technology, as they relate to the conceptualizing Dis/Ability.” Submit an abstract of up to 100 words in the body of an e-mail (not an attachment) by September 30, 2014, to cea.cc.conference@gmail.com.
