Sunday Salon Chicago returns to Black Rock Pub & Kitchen Sunday, September 28, at 7 p.m. This month’s reading series features DePaul professor Chris Green and former DePaul professor Amina Gautier. On Friday, September 26, The Book Cellar is hosting Chris Green for the launch of Résumé, his latest book of poems, at 7 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. the same night, Amina Gautier reads from Now We Will Be Happy at Women & Children First. One example of Chicago’s thriving live lit scene, 7 Stories: Unscripted takes over Martinʼs Corner Bar in Pilsen (2056 West 22nd Place) this Friday, September 26, at 9 p.m. Emerging writers share their stories in collaborative performances that incorporate live music and visual projection. During intermission, audience members can come onstage to tell brief unscripted stories and compete for free beer.   The Group Project produces 7 Stories on the last Friday of each month. The Center for Renaissance Studies is accepting abstracts for 20-minute papers for its 2015 multidisciplinary graduate student conference (January 22–24, 2015). The conference welcomes proposals from master’s or PhD students from any discipline on any medieval, Renaissance, or early modern topic in Europe, the Americas, or the Mediterranean world. The Vine Leaves Vignette Collection Award is open for submissions. Writers may enter a 50- to 60-page manuscript of vignettes. The winner receives a $500 prize, publication by Vine Leaves Press, and 20 copies of his or her book. The deadline is February 28, 2015. Submit your manuscript here.

Congratulations to alumnus Adam Dick! NightLights, an independent feature film he produced, enjoyed an initial weeklong run at Laemmle’s Music Hall 3 in Beverly Hills and earned a positive review in the Los Angeles Times. These days, Adam is “generally working on writing scripts and getting films made.” He recently optioned a Holocaust survivor’s memoir and plans to develop it into a miniseries.

The Caribbean Chapter of the College English Association (CEA-CC) is accepting paper proposals for its 2015 annual conference, which will take place at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez  March 12–13, 2015. The topic is Disability Studies. As the website states, “We welcome papers that investigate the cultural, social and political interactions of the humanities (arts, language and literature) and technology, as they relate to the conceptualizing Dis/Ability.” Submit an abstract of up to 100 words in the body of an e-mail (not an attachment) by September 30, 2014,  to cea.cc.conference@gmail.com.

Summer Literary Seminars is hosting a four-day intensive writing program in Montreal October 2–5, 2014. Workshop leaders include Heather O’Neill, Brenda Shaughnessy, and Mikhail Iossel. The program cost is $395 CAD. Register and view the schedule here.

Crook & Folly, DePaul’s art and literary magazine, is accepting applications from graduate and undergraduate students for positions as 2015 issue editors. The deadline is noon on Monday, September 29. To apply, submit a one-page (250-word) letter describing relevant experience, commitment, and vision for the magazine as an email attachment to Professor Barrie Jean Borich at bborich@depaul.edu.    

The Guild Literary Complex is seeking submissions for its 2014 Prose Awards.  Illinois residents aged 18 and older may submit an original piece of up to 1,000 words.  The winner in each category (fiction and nonfiction) will receive a cash prize of $500. The deadline to submit is Wednesday, October 1, 2014.
