The MFA Creative Writing Program of Old Dominion University and Barely South Review are pleased to announce The Norton Girault Literary Prize Inaugural 2012 Competition is now open The Norton Girault Literary Prize will be offered in 2012 for FICTION (annual prize will alternate among Fiction, Poetry, and Nonfiction genres)– one prize will go to a single short story up to 25 pages (double-spaced). By now, most Ex Libris readers have probably already heard about– and started getting excited for– the 2012 Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP) Annual Conference & Bookfair in Chicago. The conference will host more than 400 presentations, a keynote address by Margaret Atwood, and attract more than 550 publishers to the bookfair. Playboy magazine (yes, that Playboy) is now accepting submissions for their 2012 College Fiction Contest. First prize for the winning story is $3000 and publication in Playboy magazine. Second prize is $500 and third prize is $200.The contest is open to all college students regardless of age. Congratulations to two of our DePaul English faculty for their recent accomplishments! Prof. Hannah Pittard’s short story, “Orion’s Belt,” was read as the opening selection at the Selected Shorts event last week at Symphony Space in New York City. The story is one of thirteen commissioned from “emerging writers” to open the Symphony Space events held between October and June. The event will be broadcast on NPR at a date yet to be announced.
