Congratulations to Matt Caracciolo, a 2012 DePaul MAWP program alum who published his first book this month: The Waygook Book: A Foreigner’s Guide to South Korea! From Monday Creek Publishing, The Waygook Book is a travelogue/memoir taking Matt from Chicago to teaching English in South Korea and back to his hometown of Columbus, OH. Join Matt at the Book Cellar in Lincoln on February 19 at 7pm as he discusses his new book for Local Authors Night and teaching English overseas.
Elizabeth Kolbert, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Sixth Extinction and staff writer at The New Yorker, will be stopping by DePaul on Tuesday February 18 from 2-3pm in Student Center room 220 for a casual Q&A discussion. Students and faculty are welcome! A flyer with more info is attached.

The 67th edition of the Great River Review is now open for submissions of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. Submissions may be entered at GRR.submittable.com and are completely free of charge. The Great River Review is currently the longest running literary journal in Minnesota. It is currently in its 67th year, and is hosted by the University of Minnesota.

Each year, the Kurt Brown Prizes award $500 to emerging writers in fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction to attend a writers’ conference, center, retreat, festival, or residency. The prizes are applied to fees for winners to attend one of the member programs in AWP’s Directory of Conferences & Centers. The three winners and six finalists also receive a one-year individual membership. Submissions for these prizes are welcome via Submittable through March 30, 2020. Do you know a tenure-line professor who deserves to be recognized for their excellent teaching? Nominate them for the 2020 Excellence in Teaching Award! The LAS Awards Committee solicits nominations from both faculty and students. From those nominations, two tenured/tenure-line faculty members will be chosen to receive the award. DePaul’s Blue Book: Best Illinois High School Writing 2018-2019, edited by Professor Chris Green and a class of graduate students, is now available at www.depaulsbluebook.com! Pieces were chosen from high school literary magazines submitted from across Illinois. Professor Green and his Editing class selected sixty-six pieces of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. This is the first of what Professor Green hopes to be an annual tribute to our state’s best young creative writers.
