One Book, One Chicago, will be hosting a panel discussion on urban farming and gardening in Chicago. The event will be taking place this Thursday from 6-8 PM in Richardson Library Room 115. In conjunction with the Our Miss Brooks 100, and in celebration of the centennial birthday of  the iconic Chicago poet Gwendolyn Brooks, the University of Chicago will be hosting Centennial Brooks a  three day conference featuring scholars, poets, musicians, and artists inspired by Miss Brooks. Applications are now available for Spring Quarter 2017 Partial Tuition Scholarships (PTS) Awards. Find out more here, and download the application here. The M.A. in English and M.A. in Writing and Publishing programs are offering Partial Tuition Scholarships (PTS) to recognize the outstanding academic achievement of students in the English department’s two graduate programs. Partial Tuition Scholarships provide a partial reimbursement for tuition paid for 2017 spring graduate courses in English taken toward the MAE and MAWP degrees.  

Dixie State University’s Route 7 Review is currently accepting submissions. Submissions close on April 15. Visit their website for further details. The 17th Annual Chicago Cervantes Symposium will be held Friday, April 21, 2017. The  event – sponsored by The Cervantes Society of America, The Newberry Center for Renaissance Studies, and DePaul University – is free and open to the public. It takes place from 8-5:30 at the Instituto Cervantes (31 W Ohio St, Chicago). Studio Chi continues their series of digital humanities events this month with Technologies of Recovery: A Critical Examination of a Black DH Genealogy. The event takes place Tuesday, April 4 at 5:00 PM. It will feature Kim Gallon of Purdue University discussing her work with the Black Research Press Collective (BPRC) and digital scholarship surrounding black newspapers. The Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park is hosting their annual short story contest. The contest is accepting submissions of no longer than 1,500 words. Prizes include a $500 award and publication in the foundation’s new literary journal Hemingway Shorts. Find the official call for submissions here. Submissions are due Tuesday, April 4.
