Its the English Department’s favorite time of year! The official call-for-submissions for the 8th Annual Spring English Conference (SPEC) has been released! The Spring English Conference is a unique opportunity for DePaul English students from across the entire department – graduate, undergraduate, creative, literary studies, publishing, major, and minors – to come together and share their work in a friendly, comradely environment. Tent: Creative Writing is a free week of workshops, literary seminars, and conversations for twenty writers of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry for writers curious about connections between Jewishness and contemporary culture. The program runs July 16-23, and will be lead by Sam Lipsyte (ficiton), Lisa Olstein (poetry), and Eileen Pollack (nonfiction). Those interested must submit an application online here. Applications are due March 13.  

Award winning poet Desmond Egan will be visiting DePaul and reading selections from his work this coming Monday, March 6. See the flyer above for full details.

DePaul’s Gamma Psi Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, The National English Honor Society, will elect new members in spring, 2017.  English Majors and Minors, graduate and undergraduate, are eligible to apply providing they have completed one course beyond English 120 (or equivalent) and have a G.P.A. of 3.4 or better. Those interested can fill out an application here, or contact Professor Johnson-Gonzalez at bjohns58@depaul.edu.

The Southeast review is accepting submissions for their short-story, poetry, and nonfiction contests. Submissions are due March 15. More information here.

The British Modernities Group (BMG) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites graduate students to present papers at its twelfth annual interdisciplinary conference, “Changing the Subject: Subjectivity, Habitus, Behavior, and the End of the Subject.” The conference focuses on bring together work in ontology, literature, philosophy, psychology, and related fields to consider how scholars have responded to and interpreted questions of subjectivity and perception.
