Firday: The Spring English Conference!

A final reminder that the 7th Annual Spring English Conference will be held Friday, April 29th from 10:00 am to 4:15pm on the 4th floor of Arts and Letters Hall. The conference is unique opportunity to engage in the academic and creative work of your DePaul English peers and is an important part of fostering communication within the DePaul English community. Deadline Approaching: 2016 Mailer Poetry Fellowship

Applications are due on April 22 for the 2016 Mailer Poetry Fellowship. Hosted by The Norman Mailer Center and The Norman Mailer Writers Colony, the fellowship this year will take place July 9 to July 31 at the prestigious Pepperdine University campus in Malibu, California. Fictitious: Where Fiction Meets Improv

Fictitious: Where Fiction Meets Improv , a unique online literary journal and show hosted by iO, is seeking submissions. Fictitious is accepting rolling submissions for short pieces of comedic fiction. Once selected, authors will be invited to read their piece at a live show at iO Chicago that takes place every fourth Wednesday of the month. Performed pieces can only be 1-3 pages, but longer stories will be considered for the online journal. Glimmer Train Very Short and Fiction Open Contest

Submissions are due April 30 for the Very Short Fiction Award and the Fiction Open contests from Glimmer Train. Very Short prizes include: 1st place $2,000 and publication, 2nd place $500, and 3rd place $300. Find guidelines here. “The Great Break” Writing Contest

Submissions are due on April 25 for The Writer‘s “The Great Break” contest.   The 1st place prize includes $1,000 and publication in The Writer, 2nd place is $500 and online publication, and 3rd place is $250 and online publication. Entry fee is $25. Heidi Pitlor, editor of The Best American Short Stories and author of The Daylight Marriage will be judging entries. Find full details and stories here.

Capstone Portfolio and Thesis Information Session

  Professor Richard Squibbs will be conducting an Information Session for the Capstone Portfolio Requirement and Thesis Option on Saturday, April 23 in SAC 232. From 10:00- 11:00, he will explain the requirements for the Portfolio, describe how to submit your Portfolio materials using Digication, and answer any questions that you might have. From 11:00-12:00 he will discuss the Thesis Option with those students who choose it as a Final Requirement. Crook & Folly Application for Editors-in-Chief

Crook & Folly, DePaul University’s award-winning, all-student, journal of literature and art, seeks applications from graduate and undergraduate students for two positions as 2017 Editors-in-Chief. The new editors will begin work planning for the new year late this Spring 2016 and will hire their section editors during Fall quarter 2017.
