Applications are due on April 22 for the 2016 Mailer Poetry Fellowship. Hosted by The Norman Mailer Center and The Norman Mailer Writers Colony, the fellowship this year will take place July 9 to July 31 at the prestigious Pepperdine University campus in Malibu, California. Fictitious: Where Fiction Meets Improv , a unique online literary journal and show hosted by iO, is seeking submissions. Fictitious is accepting rolling submissions for short pieces of comedic fiction. Once selected, authors will be invited to read their piece at a live show at iO Chicago that takes place every fourth Wednesday of the month. Performed pieces can only be 1-3 pages, but longer stories will be considered for the online journal. Submissions are due April 30 for the Very Short Fiction Award and the Fiction Open contests from Glimmer Train. Very Short prizes include: 1st place $2,000 and publication, 2nd place $500, and 3rd place $300. Find guidelines here. Submissions are due on April 25 for The Writer‘s “The Great Break” contest.   The 1st place prize includes $1,000 and publication in The Writer, 2nd place is $500 and online publication, and 3rd place is $250 and online publication. The 2016 Bristol Short Story Prize is open for submissions. The closing date for entries is 30th April 2016. Stories can be on any theme or subject and entry can be made online via the website or by post. Entries must be previously unpublished with a maximum length of 4,000 words. There is no minimum length. Sarabande Books has released the schedule of dates for their 2016 writing contests and submission sessions. The first two contests are for short fiction and poetry, both of which close April 30. The Mary McCarthy Prize in Short Fiction will be guest judged by Stacey D’Erasmo  and is open to previously unpublished short stories, novellas, or short novels. The Kathy A. Morton Prize in Poetry will be guest judged by Dean Young and is open to manuscripts that may have individual poems which have been published previously in magazines, chapbooks of less than 48 pages, or anthologies, but the collection as a whole must be… Read Article →

This is a final reminder for students to submit to DePaul’s seventh annual Spring English Conference. The conference takes place on Friday, April 29th and submissions are due this Friday, April 1st. Gulf Coast is currently accepting submissions to their writing contest! The contest awards publication and $1,500 each to the best poem, essay, and short story, as well as $250 to two honorable mentions in each genre. The winners will appear in Gulf Coast 29.1, due out in Fall 2016, and all entries will be considered for paid publication on their website as Online Exclusives. The 2016 Hudson Prize is open for submissions until April 10th. Each year Black Lawrence Press awards the Hudson Prize for an unpublished collection of poems or short stories. The prize is open to new, emerging, and established writers. The winner will receive book publication, a $1,000 cash award, and ten copies of the book. Find out more and submit online.

The Center for Interfaith Relations is now accepting submissions for the Thomas Merton Prize in Poetry of the Sacred. Poems will be evaluated upon literary excellence, authenticity, and spiritual tenor. There will be three honorable mention award winners who will receive $100 and publication in Parabola Magazine. The grand prize winner receives $500, publication, and a chance to read the winner on stage at the 2016 Festival of Faiths. Poems are due March 31st. Find out more and submit here.
