Miracle Monocle is a journal of innovative literary and visual art funded by the University of Louisville. The winner of this new award series will receive a $200 prize and publication in the journal. Poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and experimental/hybrid literature are all welcome. Writers must identify as Black and be 25 years of age or younger. Entry to the competition will be free and facilitated through Duotrope’s new Duosuma system. Submissions will re-open in January. The San Miguel Writers’ Conference & Literary Festival is looking for three writers to join in their Literary Season online, an interactive six-month writing conference experience where writers attend workshops and seminars, virtually meet keynote speakers such as Margaret Atwood, and network with literary agents. The Literary Season online will take place virtually for one week of each month, October to February. Glassworks is the literary magazine of Rowan University’s Master of Arts in Writing Program. Find out more submission information. Flash fiction, prose poetry, and micro essays are published monthly in the online edition of Flash Glass. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis depending on need.

The Spokane Prize for Short Fiction is open for submissions. Send them your previously unpublished manuscript of at least three short stories and a minimum of 98 pages for a chance at publication and a $2000 prize. The deadline is June 15th, 2020.  Each year the finalist is selected by a guest judge. The deadline to submit to the 11th annual Spring English conference has been extended to this Friday, May 15th! Find full guidelines here. Initially, the department intended to host the conference through a website featuring video panels that could be accessed any time. After further consideration and discussion with students, however, the English department has decided to shift to synchronous panels to be held on Friday, June 5, 1-5pm via Zoom. Tellus has extended their deadline for submissions to May 15th. Tellus is an online magazine celebrating the many voices of our DePaul community by showcasing the creative artwork and writing of multilingual and multicultural students. The Collaborative for Multilingual Writing and Research (CMWR) program within the UCWbL acknowledges the definition of multilingual as anyone from a background in which various dialects of English are used, a background where English is an additional language, or a background in which English is a person’s native language but they grew up influenced by other languages or cultures. The University on New Orleans Press is now accepting submissions for their Publishing Lab Prize. Now entering its sixth year, the UNO Press Publishing Lab is looking for full length fiction manuscripts for this year’s prize. The selected author will receive a ten thousand dollar ($10,000) advance on royalties and a contract to publish with UNO Press. The work does not have to be regionally focused. The University of Nebraska Press has announced the Backwaters Prize in Poetry competition is now open. The winner will be awarded a $2,000 cash prize and the honorable mention will be awarded a $1,000 cash prize. Both winners will be awarded the publication of their book by the University of Nebraska Press under its imprint, The Backwaters Press. The judge for the 2020 contest is Nebraska State Poet, Matt Mason. All manuscripts must be sent electronically via Submittable by May 15. Dynamo Verlag, a boutique publisher of poetry and fiction, has launched its first-ever book contest. The winning manuscript will be published by Dynamo Verlag in Autumn 2021 and its author will receive a $500 advance against book royalties. In lieu of our annual in-person Spring English conference, the English department is now accepting submissions from students for a new 2020 Spring English Conference online launching June 1!  This is an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their work and to share it with a positive, supportive community of DePaul faculty and peers.
