Each year, the Kurt Brown Prizes award $500 to emerging writers in fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction to attend a writers’ conference, center, retreat, festival, or residency. The prizes are applied to fees for winners to attend one of the member programs in AWP’s Directory of Conferences & Centers. The three winners and six finalists also receive a one-year individual membership. Submissions for these prizes are welcome via Submittable through March 30, 2020. The Robert D. Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund, administered by the Cleveland Foundation, is now accepting applications for the 2020-2021 academic year. Application deadline is 5 p.m. EDT, April 15, 2020. Awards will be announced by June 15, 2020. The fund was established by a unanimous vote at the 1999 CWA District 4 Meeting in memory of District 4 Vice President Emeritus Robert D. Johnson. A reminder to graduate students (or prospective students) that deadlines for positions as a English Department Graduate Assistant are due January 15! Graduate assistants work roughly 20 hours a week in the department and receive a tuition waiver for up to 12 courses and a $7,500 stipend.
