The College of LAS supp​orts the research, scholarship, and creative work of graduate students through its Graduate Research Funding (GRF) program. The GRF helps defray the cost of conducting research and creative work and for presenting papers at academic conferences through a competitive process. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Applications are now available for Spring Quarter 2017 Partial Tuition Scholarships (PTS) Awards. Find out more here, and download the application here. The M.A. in English and M.A. in Writing and Publishing programs are offering Partial Tuition Scholarships (PTS) to recognize the outstanding academic achievement of students in the English department’s two graduate programs. Partial Tuition Scholarships provide a partial reimbursement for tuition paid for 2017 spring graduate courses in English taken toward the MAE and MAWP degrees.  

The deadline to apply for scholarships to the Minnesota Northwoods Writers Conference is approaching! Official conference applications are due May 1, but scholarship applications are due February 20. The conference takes place this summer June 19-25, at Bemidji State University in small town northern Minnesota. The conference fee is $550, however, several $300 scholarships will be awarded based upon need and literary merit. Apply for scholarships online here. Find full information below: Each spring, the English Department awards a limited number of graduate assistantships for the upcoming academic year. The scholarship totals $2,200 in aide and applications are due February 5. Interested students can apply online. The eleventh annual Schiff Foundation Fellowship for Critical Architectual Writing is now open for proposals. The fellowship program, administered by the Department of Architecture and Design at the Art Institute of Chicago, was established to engage young writers and scholars in critical discussions about the built environment and is open to graduate students currently enrolled in coursework at Chicago-area universities. Though the fellowship is focused on architecture, English students with research interests that converge with art theory, materiality, and space are encouraged to consider applying. The Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing (MVICW) will be hosting their annual workshop and residency program on July 10-16 & 17. The program costs $1,500 to attend including cost of room and board. MVICW does offer multiple need and merit based scholarships for the program; find details here. MVICW is also holding a writing contest this year.
