A final reminder that Friday, January 15th is the due date for graduate assistantship applications! Each spring, the English Department awards a limited number of graduate assistanships for the upcoming academic year. Graduate assistantships carry full tuition for up to eight graduate-level courses taken for credit towards your degree during the academic year (up to 12 courses over two years if the award is renewed) and a stipend of $7,500, payable September through May. The M.A. in English and M.A. in Writing and Publishing programs are offering Partial Tuition Scholarships (PTS) to recognize outstanding academic achievement of students in the English department’s two graduate programs. Partial Tuition Scholarships provide a partial reimbursement for tuition paid for 2015 autumn graduate courses in English taken toward the MAE and MAWP degrees. MAE and MAWP students take notice that two different opportunities to receive research funding from DePaul have approaching deadlines. Applications for both the  Graduate Research Funding (GRF) program and the Vincentian Endowment Fund Grant are due in under a month’s time. Graduate Research Funding Program: The college supports the research, scholarship, and creative work of graduate students through its Graduate Research Funding (GRF) program. The GRF helps defray the cost of conducting research and creative work and for presenting papers at academic conferences through a competitive process. The Kentucky Women Writers Conference will award five postgraduate merit scholarships to women enrolled in graduate school to attend this year’s conference. The conference will take place September 11–12, 2015, in Lexington, Kentucky. The Academic Success Center in DePaul’s College of Education has an opening for a partial graduate assistantship this spring, which will continue as a full graduate assistantship next year. For the partial graduate assistantship, the student will work 10 hours a week and receive a tuition waiver for one course. The 2015–2016 full graduate assistantship will entail working 20 hours a week in exchange for a $6,000 annual stipend and tuition waivers for two courses. AWP is offering three scholarships of $500 each to emerging writers who wish to attend a writers’ conference, center, retreat, festival, or residency. See AWP’s Directory of Conferences & Centers for a list of eligible programs. The winners and six finalists will also receive a one-year individual AWP membership. The contest will accept entries via Submittable through March 30, 2015. This year’s judges are Xu Xi for creative nonfiction, Matt Bell for fiction, and Sandra Beasley for poetry.

MAE and MAWP students may now apply for winter quarter 2015 partial tuition scholarship (PTS) awards. The application deadline is January 19, 2015.
