While DePaul University was on break for a month and a half, we graduate students embarked on our own projects we had been putting off for a whole quarter while we frantically scraped assignments together for classes and finals. During winter break, some of us continued to work our full or part time jobs. Tamara Ghattas (MAWP ’10) was the first place winner (Young Adult Division) in the Union League Civic & Arts Foundation’s Creative Writing Competition. Her winning story, “In Blue Seclusion,” will be published in a winner’s anthology this year. The CAF Creative Writing Competition for Young Writers is, according to Examiner.com, the best contest in the Midwest. There is very generous prize money, no entry fee, and a focus on students who live or study within 100 miles of the Loop.
