Kathleen Rooney Candidate for Reader’s Best Novelist! And Alison Ogunmokun Candidate for Best Poet!

Voting is open for the Chicago Reader’s annual Best of Chicago awards and DePaul’s own Kathleen Rooney has been nominated for the category of Best Novelist! Kathleen has been making waves and garnering well deserved accolades with her new novel, Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk. An urban love-letter and deftly crafted portrait of a powerful woman, Lillian Boxfish has been called, “prescient and quick….a perfect fusing of subject and writer, idea and ideal” by the Tribune. A Few End of the Year Congratulations are in Order

As the quarter inches closer to summer break, Ex Libris would like to update folks on a few awesome accomplishments from the last few weeks. First, a kudos to Dave Welch who will be spending part of his summer at the Sewanee Writer’s Conference, and will have his tuition paid as their Tennessee Williams Scholar. Great work Dave! Next, two professors in the department are recent gran winners! Rebecca Johns Trissler was awarded a Quality of Instruction Council (QIC) Competitive Instructional Grant, and Paula McQuade was awarded a University Research Council (URC) Competitive Research Grant. Two Spring Quarter Congratulations

Ex Libris would like to extend congratulations to two professors with exciting news this Spring Quarter. First off, a huge congrats and a best wishes to adjunct faculty member Chris Eagle! Chris has accepted a full-time position as a Senior Lecturer in the Medical Humanities at Emory University’s Center for the Study of Human Health. For the past three years, Chris has taught a variety of courses at DePaul and been an essential part in our academic environment. The English Department is especially thankful for its amazing faculty and staff this holiday season! In particular, the following individuals who won Summer Research Grants from the College of liberal Arts and Sciences! Barrie Jean Borich, for her proposal, “Oh, What a Beautiful City.” Jim Fairhall, for his proposal, “James Joyce, Nature, and the Body.” Paula McQuade, for her proposal, “Popular Print Culture and Mary Cary’s The Ressurrection of the Witnesses (1648; reprint 1653).” Richard Squibbs, for his proposal, “Scorning Sentiment in Tobias Smollet’s Ferdinand Count Fathom.” Congrats all!
