Crook & Folly Editors Application Deadline is Friday May 17th

Crook & Folly, DePaul University’s award-winning, all-student, journal of literature and art, seeks applications from graduate and undergraduate students for two challenging and exciting volunteer positions as 2019 Editors-in-Chief. The new editors will begin work planning for the new year late this Spring 2018 and will hire their section editors during Fall quarter 2018. Editors-In-Chief must be available and preferably in residence during all regular quarters of the entire 2018-2019 academic year (and they must definitely be in Chicago for the Winter and Spring 2020 quarters). June 2018 MAWP grad Cynthia Nwakudu is a finalist for the 2018 Gwendolyn Brooks Open Mic Award! The Gwendolyn Brooks Open Mic Awards (GBOMA) is an annual poetry competition founded by Pulitzer Prize winning Chicago poet Gwendolyn Brooks (1917-2000). The competition culminates in a live semi-finals event at which the top contestants selected by guest judges perform their original poems in live competition for a $500 prize awarded by the audience. Congratulations to Kathleen Rooney!

Congrats to Kathleen Rooney on her new book, The Listening Room! The Listening Room by Kathleen Rooney is a novel in flash fictions that looks at the paintings and life of the Belgian Surrealist artist René Magritte from the perspectives of his wife Georgette and their shared series of beloved Pomeranian dogs, all called Loulou. The hybrid book draws heavily on Rooney’s recent work as the co-editor of Magritte’s Selected Writings, a lost manuscript that she rediscovered, edited, and brought out for the first time ever in an English edition in Fall 2016 in both the UK and… Read Article →
