His book Dream State was recently chosen as Oprah’s Book Club’s Book of the Month and was selected as Book of the Week by People and The New York Times, among many other accolades. This year, the Spring Conference will be held in conjunction with the annual MFA reading and the English awards ceremony, combining three of the department’s most important events. “James Baldwin At 100” will be held at DePaul’s Theatre School (2350 North Racine Ave.) from 5:00 to 7:00 PM next Thursday, February 27. In addition to presentations by Ashli Rene Funches and keynote speaker Dr. Darrell Moore, students from DePaul’s Theatre School will perform excerpts from Baldwin’s “Sonny’s Blues: A Short Story.” Tickets are free, though reservations are encouraged.
