The DePaul English Department invites you to participate in the eleventh Spring English Conference. The Spring English Conference is an annual event in which DePaul English undergraduate and graduate students present academic and creative work. In lieu of our annual in-person Spring English conference, the English department is now accepting submissions from students for a new 2020 Spring English Conference online launching June 1!  This is an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their work and to share it with a positive, supportive community of DePaul faculty and peers. The submission portal for the 2020 LAS graduate student symposium at DePaul is now open! The submission deadline is March 27th.   This year’s topic is The Question of Trust: Problems and Opportunities for the Intellectually Curious and Actively Engaged: Over the past four years, the media outlets we trust, the scientific findings we ponder, and the social mores we subscribe to have increasingly become a matter of political ideology in public discourse. Congratulations to Matt Caracciolo, a 2012 DePaul MAWP program alum who published his first book this month: The Waygook Book: A Foreigner’s Guide to South Korea! From Monday Creek Publishing, The Waygook Book is a travelogue/memoir taking Matt from Chicago to teaching English in South Korea and back to his hometown of Columbus, OH. Join Matt at the Book Cellar in Lincoln on February 19 at 7pm as he discusses his new book for Local Authors Night and teaching English overseas.   

Elizabeth Kolbert, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Sixth Extinction and staff writer at The New Yorker, will be stopping by DePaul on Tuesday February 18 from 2-3pm in Student Center room 220 for a casual Q&A discussion. Students and faculty are welcome! Register for FREE (bit.ly/queertopia2020) for the 13th annual Queertopia conference, New Queer and Trans Politics?, on February 29 (Saturday) at Kresge Centennial Hall (Northwestern Evanston campus)! This year the conference features four student research panels, a keynote by Kim L Hunt, Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame Inductee and Executive Director of Pride Action Tank, and a screening and discussion of the film, Criminal Queers. Next Thursday join Crook & Folly for their annual Valentines celebration! Staff will be handing out valentines and providing information on how to submit to Edition 40 of DePaul’s arts and literature magazine. Schmitt Academic Center PIT 12-3pm Thursday, February 13th

TODAY- On Tuesday, February 4th from 12-3pm visit DePaul’s Richardson Library on LPC to learn what YOU can do about climate change. Organizations from across campus and the city of Chicago will be available to teach, engage, and inspire you to make a difference. This event is part of the 2019-2020 One Book, One Chicago season, exploring the theme Season For Change through the book The Sixth Extinction by Elizabeth Kolbert. onebookonechicago.org
