Join in a worldwide effort to transcribe a digitized 17th century manuscript by coming to the Scholars Lab, room 103, in the John T. Richardson Library on Thursday, October 25th from 1:00-5:00pm. The Transcribathon is being put on by the Early Modern Poetry Online Project or EMPOP. DePaul University will be joining the National University of Ireland Galway, Virginia Commonwealth University, Northern Virginia Community College, and The Folger Shakespeare Library in transcribing a miscellany from the Folger that contains guides on fishing, instructions on making fireworks, medicinal recipes, and poetry by Petrarch, Ben Jonson, and William Shakespeare. June 2018 MAWP grad Cynthia Nwakudu is a finalist for the 2018 Gwendolyn Brooks Open Mic Award! The Gwendolyn Brooks Open Mic Awards (GBOMA) is an annual poetry competition founded by Pulitzer Prize winning Chicago poet Gwendolyn Brooks (1917-2000). The competition culminates in a live semi-finals event at which the top contestants selected by guest judges perform their original poems in live competition for a $500 prize awarded by the audience.
