Chicago Women: Celebrating Our Voices

Celebrating the release of Her Own Accord: Women on Identity, Culture, and Community, authors Nina Barrett, Cristina Henriquez, and Laura Negrete will be on campus to participate in a panel discussion on their creative process and their experiences as women. The event takes place on Tuesday, May 17 from 6:30-8:30 PM in Cortelyou Commons. The event is co-sponsored by the English Department, Women and Gender Studies Department, and The Women’s Center in conjunction with The Great Books Foundation. Submit Proposals to the DHChicago Conference

DHChicago, in collaboration with the Macroanalysis and the Humanities Working Group, is accepting proposals for their digital humanities conference, “New Archival Knowledges,” being held at the University of Chicago May 19-20. DHChicago seeks to bring together scholars from across the Chicagoland area and across disciplines to present work on macroanalysis, or the computational analysis of textual data and metadata. Proposals are due Friday, May 6 and should include: a title, abstract of up to 250 words, and, in the email, the author’s name, a C.V., institutional affiliation, and email address. Literary Studies Speaker Series: Lisa Lowe

Dr. Lisa Lowe, Professor of English and American Studies at Tufts University will be the speaking on campus Wednesday, May 18th in the John T. Richardson library Room 115. Lowe is the author of multiple books including her latest The Intimacies of Four Continents (2015), a study of settler colonialism, transatlantic African slavery and the East Indies and China trades in goods and people as the conditions for modern European liberalism and empire. A final reminder that the 7th Annual Spring English Conference will be held Friday, April 29th from 10:00 am to 4:15pm on the 4th floor of Arts and Letters Hall. Fictitious: Where Fiction Meets Improv

Fictitious: Where Fiction Meets Improv , a unique online literary journal and show hosted by iO, is seeking submissions. Fictitious is accepting rolling submissions for short pieces of comedic fiction. Once selected, authors will be invited to read their piece at a live show at iO Chicago that takes place every fourth Wednesday of the month. Performed pieces can only be 1-3 pages, but longer stories will be considered for the online journal.
