Professor Paula McQuade kicks off the Department of English Literary Studies Speaker Series! On Friday, September 18 from 11:00 to 12:30 in Arts & Letters Hall room 313, Professor McQuade will present “‘As Say Historians’: Prophecy, Orality, and Community in Mary Cary’s The Resurrection of the Witnesses (1653),” material from her recently completed book, Women and Catechisms in Seventeenth-Century England. Judy Blume will be in Chicago on Wednesday, June 17, at 7 p.m. to discuss her latest book, In the Unlikely Event, with Chicago Tribune columnist Heidi Stevens. The event, presented by the Chicago Tribune Printers Row series and the Chicago Humanities Festival, will take place in the Diane and David B Heller Auditorium at Francis W. DePaul assistant professor, Humanities Center 2014–2015 faculty fellow, and Slag Glass City editor Barrie Jean Borich will host Write ON Chicago/HERE is WHERE this Sunday, June 7, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Comfort Station in Logan Square (2579 North Milwaukee Avenue). Writers Guild, a multigenre creative writing group housed within the University Center for Writing-based Learning (UCWbL), is hosting its quarterly open mic, Aloud!, this Thursday, May 28, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in SAC 212. Participants are welcome to share their own writing or to read excerpts from work they admire. Writers Guild will supply snacks.

DePaul art and literary magazine Crook & Folly will celebrate the release of Edition 35 this Thursday, May 28, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the DePaul Art Museum. Guest judges and Chicago writers Jonathan Eig, Jac Jemc, and Daniel Borzutzky will read; MAWP students Eric Hollander and Joe Hampton will provide their musical stylings; and magazines and snacks galore will be there for the taking. Crook & Folly will also introduce the 2015–2016 Edition 36 editors.

The 31st annual Printers Row Lit Fest, the Midwest’s largest outdoor literary festival, will take place June 6–7, 2015, in the historic Printers Row district (at Dearborn Street, from Congress to Polk Streets) in the South Loop. Now in its thirtieth year, the fest will feature more than 200 booksellers from across the country and more than 200 authors participating in panels, discussions, and a variety of other programs.
