The Department of English is pleased to announce The Dontrey Britt-Hart Endowed Scholarship, a new funding opportunity for MAWP students. Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to a student enrolled in the Writing and Publishing Program in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences who is in good academic standing and has financial need. Preference shall be given to women or students who have demonstrated an interest in/commitment to increasing the prevalence of, or improving the role of, women in higher education. The Minverva Rising Literary Journal, a journal dedicated to publishing creative works by women, is now open for submissions for their journal publication. The theme for this years submission cycle is ‘sisterhood,’ and submissions close on February 1. Visit them online to submit and find out more.
The University of Illinois at Chicago is hosting their annual graduate student conference Engendering Change this April 23. The conference focuses on themes of gender and sexuality, and this years theme is specifically oriented towards the intersection of racial and gender justice. Northern Illinois University’s Department of English in cooperation with the Allerton Planning Committee will be hosting the 52nd Alerton English Articulation Conference from April 13 and 14 at the Allerton Park and Retreat Center in Monticello, Illinois. This years theme Charting Our Future: Evolutions, Revelutions, and Revelations asks with the changing state of higher education and cost of tuition how colleges and universities can evolve, revolt, or remap the world of education. Literary magazine Crazyhorse is now accepting submissions for their context in ficiton, nonfiction, and poetry writing! Winners receive $2,000 and publication in Crazyhorse. All entries will be considered for publication, and more than one manuscript may be entered. Their is a $20 entry fee which includes a one-year subscription to Crazyhorse. Illinois State University’s English Studies Program has announced a call for proposals for their 2016 graduate student Word’s Worth Conference: Hum(Animals). The conference encourages a broad ranges of proposals specifically in the field of English Literature, but they also encourage creative writing submissions! Word’s Worth is configured as an early graduate student conference, so first year students are highly encouraged to apply!
