Thursday, October 22 at 5:00 pm is the deadline to submit to The Guild Literary Complex for their 2015 prose awards for short fiction and non-fiction. Every fall, the Guild Complex acknowledges emerging and established writers via a judged competition and recognition at the historic Chopin Theatre in Chicago. This Sunday marks the beginning of the 2015-2016 cycle of Narrative Magazine’s poem of the week contest. Authors are paid $25 (reprints) to $50 for a selected poem, a chance to win $150 if selected as one of the years Top Five Poems of the Week, and eligibility for the $4,000 Narrative Prize. The Department of English Visiting Writers Program will be hosting Vu Tran on Thursday, October 29 at 6 pm  in the Richardson Library Room 115. He will be reading from his debut novel Dragonfish. Vu Tran was born in Saigon, Vietnam in 1975 and grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
