Essay Press Accepting Submissions for Digital Chapbook Contest

Essay Press, an independent print and digital publisher, is now accepting submissions for its first digital chapbook contest. Submissions are open from August 15 through November 1, 2015. Selections will be made by January. Twelve authors will serve as judges, each selecting one digital chapbook for 2016 publication. Each judge will write an introduction to their selected work. Essay press will then release a new winning chapbook each month in 2016. Paula McQuade: Literary Studies Speakers Event

Professor Paula McQuade kicks off the Department of English Literary Studies Speaker Series! On Friday, September 18 from 11:00 to 12:30 in Arts & Letters Hall room 313, Professor McQuade will present “‘As Say Historians’: Prophecy, Orality, and Community in Mary Cary’s The Resurrection of the Witnesses (1653),” material from her recently completed book, Women and Catechisms in Seventeenth-Century England. Professor McQuade studies the literature of the English Renaissance, with particular focus on religion and gender in early modern drama and in early modern women writers. Judy Blume will be in Chicago on Wednesday, June 17, at 7 p.m. to discuss her latest book, In the Unlikely Event, with Chicago Tribune columnist Heidi Stevens. The event, presented by the Chicago Tribune Printers Row series and the Chicago Humanities Festival, will take place in the Diane and David B Heller Auditorium at Francis W. Poetry Foundation Media Internship (Deadline: 6/30/15)

The Poetry Foundation is looking for a media intern. Responsibilities include proofreading, creating event announcements, and updating media and community lists. Depending on the applicant’s experience in digital culture, the intern may help maintain the Poetry Foundation’s social media outlets.
