Each year, Beyond the Bomb brings together activists from across the country ready to take action in their community to ensure we never go to nuclear war. They are looking for folks who are ready to dig in to the work: build connections across their campus or city, hold events to educate and mobilize their peers, and ensure nuclear disarmament is a key issue in the upcoming elections. CALYX is looking for new and emerging poets from different demographics. The winner will receive $300 cash and publication in CALYX Journal Vol. 31:2, Winter 2019. Three runners-up will receive a one-issue subscription and publication on the CALYX website. The contest runs from now through June 30, 2018 and is open to any theme or subject. Please submit up to 3 poems (6 pages maximum) of unpublished poetry (both online and hard copy submissions are accepted). There is a $15 reading fee. Twice each year Black Lawrence Press will run the Black River Chapbook Competition for an unpublished chapbook of poems or short fiction between 16-36 pages in length. The contest is open to new, emerging, and established writers. The winner will receive book publication, a $500 cash award, and ten copies of the book. Prizes are awarded on publication. CONTEST GUIDELINES  Emerging writers are welcome in ALL categories, but this category is exclusively open to writers whose fiction has not appeared, nor is scheduled to appear, in any print publication with a circulation over 5000.
