The 17th Annual Chicago Cervantes Symposium will be held Friday, April 21, 2017. The  event – sponsored by The Cervantes Society of America, The Newberry Center for Renaissance Studies, and DePaul University – is free and open to the public. Studio Chi continues their series of digital humanities events this month with Technologies of Recovery: A Critical Examination of a Black DH Genealogy. The event takes place Tuesday, April 4 at 5:00 PM. It will feature Kim Gallon of Purdue University discussing her work with the Black Research Press Collective (BPRC) and digital scholarship surrounding black newspapers. The Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park is hosting their annual short story contest. The contest is accepting submissions of no longer than 1,500 words. Prizes include a $500 award and publication in the foundation’s new literary journal Hemingway Shorts. Find the official call for submissions here. Submissions are due Tuesday, April 4.

DePaul students are currently eligible and being offered an internship opportunity at Chicago City Colleges. The internship is a great opportunity to work with an excellent instructor who specializes in technology and writing. The class is a hybrid face-to-face and on-line class. It will meet for three hours once a week, and the rest of the work is on-line. The instructor is experienced and knowledgeable; working with her would be an education in on-line teaching. The deadline for Cold Mountain Review’s R.T. Smith Prize for Narrative Poetry is fast approaching, on March 15! The prize awards a narrative poem on ecological and/or eco-justice $500. All submissions will be considered for publication in the spring issue of CMR. Find out more and submit online.
