Congratulations to two of our DePaul English faculty for their recent accomplishments! Prof. Hannah Pittard’s short story, “Orion’s Belt,” was read as the opening selection at the Selected Shorts event last week at Symphony Space in New York City. The story is one of thirteen commissioned from “emerging writers” to open the Symphony Space events held between October and June. The event will be broadcast on NPR at a date yet to be announced. Well, today we are very excited to announce that current M.A.W.P. student Lisa Applegate has been selected as one of 3 semifinalists for the 2011 Prose Award for Short Non-Fiction. Not only that, but Lisa’s piece is an edited version of one she wrote for Brenda Fowler’s class on writing in Chicago last winter quarter. The Dublin Review of Books is pleased to announce its second Flash Fiction Contest. The prize will bring recognition to distinguished flash fiction writing from within Ireland and around the world. The winning entry will receive 1,000 Euro. Second and third place will each receive 100 Euro. The top three stories will appear in The Dublin Review of Books.
