Happy Halloween, everyone! Remember the Guild Literary Complex Prose Awards contest? Well, today we are very excited to announce that current M.A.W.P. student Lisa Applegate has been selected as one of 3 semifinalists for the 2011 Prose Award for Short Non-Fiction. Not only that, but Lisa’s piece is an edited version of one  she wrote for Brenda Fowler’s class on writing in Chicago last winter quarter. And her short story, “The First Wife,” which appeared in the December2010/January 2011 issue of the New England Review, has been selected for this year’s O. Henry Prize Anthology. The Red Clay Review, the nation’s only literary review to feature exclusively the work of graduate and doctoral students, is seeking submissions for this year’s edition of the Review.  Red Clay Review is accepting poetry, flash fiction, short fiction, creative nonfiction, and one act/ten-minute plays from both new and established authors, with the desire to give voice to the many talented graduate and doctoral students who are starting or continuing their journey as authors.
