The Nasiona is seeking submissions for a micro-nonfiction/poetry writing tournament. Submissions must be non-fiction stories about your life (ie. micro-memoir). DISQUIET

Submissions are now open for the DISQUIET Literary Prize! This contest is for writing in any genre, by a writer who has not published more than one book. The winners in each genre (nonfiction, fiction, poetry) will be published. The grand prize winner will receive a full scholarship including tuition, lodging, and a $1,000 travel stipend to Lisbon in 2021. DePaul literary magazine Crook & Folly is hosting an open mic reading on Thursday, April 16. The reading will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Room 115 of Richardson Library. Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to attend and share their fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and micro prose pieces. Complimentary donuts and coffee will be up for grabs.

Two Cities Review, a new literary magazine, is accepting submissions for its prose contest. The contest theme is Cities Gone Wrong. The winner in each category—fiction and nonfiction—will receive $250 and publication. The submission deadline is March 15, 2015. Phoebe: Journal of Literature and Art, a literary journal of George Mason University’s MFA Program, is accepting submissions for its annual fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry contests. The submission deadline is March 1, 2015.  Judges Ramona Ausubel (fiction), Roxane Gay (nonfiction), and Brian Teare (poetry) will choose the winners in each category. Winners receive $850 and publication in an online issue of Phoebe.

The PEN American Center is accepting submissions for its new PEN/Fusion Emerging Writers Prize, which will recognize an unpublished work of nonfiction that addresses a global and/or multicultural issue. Young writers (younger than 35) who have had at least one prior publication in a national magazine or journal may submit their work. The winner will receive a $10,000 prize. The submission deadline is February 27, 2015. This year’s judges are John Freeman, Roxane Gay, and Cristina Henríquez.

The submission period for the annual Crazyhorse Prizes in Fiction, Nonfiction, and Poetry is drawing to a close this Saturday, January 31, 2015.  Writers may submit short stories or essays (25 pages max) or up to three poems. The $20 entry fee includes a one-year Crazyhorse subscription. Each winner will receive $2,000 and publication.

Chicago-based author, actor, and acting coach Janet B. Milstein is seeking an intern to work with her as an editor on two short nonfiction books. Approximately 100 pages each, these books on professional acting will be part of a new book series for Smith and Kraus, Inc. DePaul’s Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honors Society, is hosting a poetry open mic night with special guest Debra Bruce on Friday, May 31st from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in Arts & Letters Hall room 404. During the first hour, students are welcome to read their original works of poetry, no registration necessary.
