Sonya Chung, author, professor at Columbia University, and staff writer at The Millions, wrote an article titled “What We Teach When We Teach Writers: On the Quantifiable and the Uncertain.” The article discusses the ups and downs of being a writer, and tries to identify that unquantifiable quality all writers strive for. Tamara Ghattas (MAWP ’10) was the first place winner (Young Adult Division) in the Union League Civic & Arts Foundation’s Creative Writing Competition. Her winning story, “In Blue Seclusion,” will be published in a winner’s anthology this year. The CAF Creative Writing Competition for Young Writers is, according to Examiner.com, the best contest in the Midwest. There is very generous prize money, no entry fee, and a focus on students who live or study within 100 miles of the Loop.
