The Sun, an independent, ad-free nonprofit magazine founded in 1974, is hiring a business manager and associate editor in its Chapel Hill, North Carolina, editorial office. The monthly magazine publishes personal essays, short stories, interviews, poetry, and photographs. The ideal candidate should be prepared to make at least a five-year commitment to The Sun.

The 2015 New Letters Literary Awards are accepting poetry, essay, and fiction submissions. Writers can enter their work for consideration for the following prizes: The $1,500 New Letters Prize for Poetry for the best group of three to six poems The $1,500 Dorothy Cappon Prize for the best essay The $1,500 Alexander Cappon Prize for Fiction for the best short story The submission deadline is midnight on Monday, May May 18. 

Glimmer Train is accepting submissions for its Short Story Award for New Writers through February 28, 2015. Writers may submit stories of up to 12,000 words. The reading fee is $15 per story. The winner will receive $1,500 and publication in Issue 96 of Glimmer Train.  

In January, the Reader will publish its 15th annual Pure Fiction issue, a collection of short stories submitted by mostly local fiction writers paired with illustrations by mostly local artists. The submission deadline is November 15. Submit stories of up to 3,000 words to fiction@chicagoreader.com. The Reader accepts multiple submissions and pays writers for the stories it publishes.
