DePaul’s Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse (WRD) welcomes its winter quarter guest speaker—Angela Haas of Illinois State University—to DePaul on Tuesday, March 10. After a 5:30 p.m. reception, the talk will begin at 6 p.m. in McGowan South 104. See the flyer below for more information.

DePaul’s writing, rhetoric, and discourse (WRD) department will hold an information session about its graduate certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) on Thursday, February 26, at 5 p.m. in SAC 301. Students who complete the graduate certificate in TESOL will have the opportunity to teach English for a year at Huaqiao University. Yangping Zeng, WRD’s current visiting scholar from Huaqiao, will be in attendance at the information session.    

This Monday, writer Lois Leveen will be speaking at an event sponsored by The Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse and the Department of African and Black Diaspora Studies. Leveen is the author of The Secrets of Mary Bowser, a recent novel about a historical figure, Mary Bowser, a freed slave who later became a Union spy. Leveen’s talk, entitled “Telling Secrets: Mary Bowser, Race, Gender, and American History,” will take place this Monday, January 28th, at 4 p.m. in the Rosati Room (room 300) of the Richardson Library. In Alumni News: Molly Tranberg (MAWP ’11, and former Ex Libris editor!) was recently hired as an Editorial Assistant and Assistant to the Publisher in the Reference Division at Oxford University Press in New York. She assists the publisher in day-to-day tasks and works to bring new online reference materials to life.
