Threshold Release Party, Two Job Postings, & More!

Independent Publishers Gather for IBPA’s Publishing University: Guest Post by Alia Neaton

On April 27-28th, independent publishers, writers, and students gathered at the Palmer House Hotel in Chicago for the Independent Book Publishers Association’s Publishing University 2013. Luckily for us, MAWP student Alia Neaton was in attendance all weekend, and has graciously taken the time to write up what she saw and what she learned about independent book publishing for today’s guest post. Threshold’s Extended Deadline, Alumni News, and More

Threshold, DePaul’s annual literary arts journal, is extending their deadline for submissions through March 8th, 2013, at 11:59 p.m. Guidelines are the same as before and can be found on Threshold‘s tumblr account, as well as the previous Ex Libris call for submissions. Two New Writing Contests

Just a reminder- as long as you’re getting your work ready to send out to these great new writing contests, don’t forget to submit it to Threshold as well. The deadline to submit to DePaul’s own literary arts magazine is this Friday, February 15th! *** Arcadia Magazine is currently accepting submissions for its inaugural short story contest. The winner will receive a prize of $1,000 and publication in Arcadia. The deadline for entry is February 15th, 2013. Jen Percy and Alastair Bonnett on Campus

The DePaul Visiting Writers’ Series is excited to announce that nonfiction writer Jen Percy will be doing a reading at DePaul on February 20th at 6 p.m. in Richardson 115. Percy will be reading from her upcoming nonfiction novel Demon Camp, which begins with the story of a Special Ops soldier who believes his PTSD is caused by demons, but becomes about the author’s obsession with the strange and mesmerizing world she encounters. Student News, Call for Papers, and Gulf Coast Writing Contest

Today in Student News, congratulations to MAWP student Raul Palma, who has won first place in the Mary Mackey Short Story contest for his story “Amaranthus.” As the first place winner of this competition, Raul has been invited to read his story in San Francisco in March and was awarded a $100 prize. As we posted earlier in Student News, “Amaranthus” is also scheduled to be published in 34th Parallel Magazine. Two Friday Events and a Call for Submissions

This month, the DePaul English Department is holding a series of Student Information Sessions with the candidates for the Assistant Professor of Early Modern English Literature, a tenure-track position in The Department of English to begin in September, 2013. A total of three sessions will be held in ALH 210-11, one for each candidate. All DePaul English Graduate Students are encouraged to attend and give their input.
