Restless Books, an independent publisher of international literature based in Brooklyn, is pleased to announce a new $10,000 writing prize for first-generation American authors, the Restless Books Prize for New Immigrant Writing. Restless Books created the prize in order to foster emerging writers of sharp, culture-straddling writing that addresses American identity in a global age and access the often dismissed voices and stories of immigrant peoples. Essay Press, an independent print and digital publisher, is now accepting submissions for its first digital chapbook contest. Submissions are open from August 15 through November 1, 2015. Selections will be made by January. Twelve authors will serve as judges, each selecting one digital chapbook for 2016 publication. Each judge will write an introduction to their selected work. Essay press will then release a new winning chapbook each month in 2016. Crook & Folly, DePaul’s student journal of literature and art, seeks applications from graduate and undergraduate students for two positions as 2016 editors in chief. The application deadline is Wednesday, April 22. Candidates should email a one-page (250-word) application letter describing relevant experience, commitment, and vision for the magazine as an attachment to Professor Borich (bborich@depaul.edu). The DePaul English department’s sixth annual student-run spring conference will take place on Friday, May 8, 2015, in Arts & Letters Hall. DePaulians may submit their original works of fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, literary analysis, pedagogical and literary theory, and publishing, professional, and teaching practices. The North American Review is accepting proposals for this summer’s bicentennial conference. The creative writing and literature conference will take place at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls June 11–13, 2015. Students may submit proposals for individual papers, panels (three to four panelists), or roundtable discussions (four to six participants). The submission deadline is February 22, 2015. Crossing Boundaries, the second annual LAS interdisciplinary graduate student conference, is accepting proposals for papers, panels, or posters through Friday, January 23, 2015. Students interested in presenting at the conference may submit proposals here. The conference, which will showcase work by graduate students across many departments and programs, will take place on Friday, March 6, 2015. The one-day event will kick off at 11 a.m. in McGowan South (1110 West Belden Avenue).

Wayne State University‘s sixth annual Group for Early Modern Studies (GEMS) graduate symposium welcomes abstracts from humanities graduate students working on the early modern period, broadly defined as 1400–1800. Abstracts should relate to the general theme of “will.” The symposium will take place on Friday, March 13, 2015, at Wayne State University in Detroit. The American Graduate School in Paris is accepting abstracts for its 2015 conference, The Influence and Role of NGOs in Global Governance: From Grassroots to Global. The conference will take place in Paris April 23–24, 2015. The abstract submission deadline is January 30, 2015, and the final paper submission deadline is March 27, 2015.
