The Atlanta start-up multimedia company, Southern Fried Karma (SFK) Press is now accepting submissions to their 2017 Novel Contest. The contest focuses on finding authors with manuscripts that illuminate the diversity of the Southern experience. There is no reading fee, and the winning author will receive a $1,500 advance toward an SFK Press publishing contact. All finalists will also be considered for publication. Submissions are due May 31. Submit online here.  

April 23 is the deadline to submit to Blue River writing by students currently enrolled in graduate creative writing programs or within one year of graduation. Submissions are free and accepted in categories of fiction, poetry and creative non-fiction. Writers whose pieces are accepted will receive one free copy of the 2017 issue. The LGBTQ Studies Program’s Creative and Scholarly Works Contest is now accepting submissions! The contest is interdisciplinary and accepts both academic scholarship and creative works in multiple medias addressing a theme, topic, or issue relevant to LGBTQ studies. Dixie State University’s Route 7 Review is currently accepting submissions. Submissions close on April 15. Visit their website for further details. The Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park is hosting their annual short story contest. The contest is accepting submissions of no longer than 1,500 words. The deadline for Cold Mountain Review’s R.T. Smith Prize for Narrative Poetry is fast approaching, on March 15! The prize awards a narrative poem on ecological and/or eco-justice $500. All submissions will be considered for publication in the spring issue of CMR. Find out more and submit online.

Submissions to DePaul’s award winning student-run literary journal, Crook & Folly, have been extended to March 8. Crook & Folly is accepting submissions of poetry, fiction, flash fiction, creative non-fiction, and dramatic literature. Submissions and questions can be sent to crookandfolly@gmail.com.

Nimrod International Journal is now accepting submissions to three different contests. Nimrod is accepting submissions of 3-10 pages of poetry. Fiction submissions of up to 7,500 words maximum are also being accepted. No previously submitted works will be accepted. For both of these contests first prize is $2,000 and second prize is $1,000. Nimrod is also accepting submissions to the Francine Ringold Awards for New Writers. Submissions of up to five pages of poetry, or 5,000 words of fiction are being accepted.
