Head to Kibbitznest on October 11th for low-pressure and low stakes event for poets and the poetry curious. Two established poetry open-mics are coming together for a unique crossover night. There will be a 45 minute free write (prompts available) followed by readings and audience votes. The event starts at 4 PM in the back room.

From the new national literary magazine out of Baylor University’s English Department, Independence Literary Review: We’re actively seeking poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction submissions for our inaugural issue due out this December, with a submission deadline of October 1. Reed Magazine is seeking submissions for consideration for their 160th anniversary issue until October 1st. While still accepting submissions across all genres (Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, Poetry and Visual Art), they’re particularly searching for thought-provoking Creative Nonfiction submissions. Glassworks, the literary magazine of Rowan University’s Master of Arts in Writing program, is seeking submissions in creative nonfiction, fiction, poetry, hybrid pieces, and artwork to be considered for publication both digitally and in print. Submissions for the 2027 print edition are due by December 15. To increase response times and eliminate submission fees, each genre will have a submission cap. On July 1, submissions will open for Electric Literature’s first Emerging Writers Contest, with categories in fiction and poetry. One winner in each genre will receive $1,000, publication in either Recommended Reading (fiction) or The Commuter (poetry), and two weeks at the Writing Downtown residency program in Downtown Las Vegas, started by Plympton and the Writer’s Block bookstore. Second-place winners will receive $250, and third-place winners will receive $100. All fiction finalists will receive a review with feedback from a literary agent. Submissions will open on July 1, 2026 via Submittable. 

Submissions are open for the issue “&” of the Writing Center’s digital literary magazine, The Orange Couch! The magazine is revision-based and requires writers to receive feedback either through a writing center appointment or through either Writers Guild or Scriptwriting Society (the Writing Center’s creative writing groups). We want your poems or short fiction stories that are suspended in this regard, have suspenseful endings, or are ambiguous in nature at any or every turn.
