The Summer Literary Seminars (SLS) are now open for submissions to their 2017 contests in fiction and poetry. The contests offer writers and opportunity to win full funding for SLS programs in Georgia and Kenya as well as publication in Fence Magazine. The entry fee is $17 and the deadline is February 28. The deadline for submissions and abstracts to the 25th annual Midwestern Conference on Literature, Language and Media (MCLLM) is at the end of this month, Friday, January 27! Hosted annually by Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL, MCLLM is seeking proposals for 15-minute paper from individuals and panels on humanities research – especially graduate student submissions. Las Angeles-based ideas magazine Zócal Public Square is open for submissions for their 6th annual poetry prize . They are searching for a U.S. poet whose poem best evokes a connection to place. The winner will receive $500 and will be published by Zócal online. There is no registration fee and entrants can send up to three poems. The deadline is February 3. Find out more and submit online.

The Chicago Tribune is now accepting submissions to their 2017 Nelson Algren Literary Contest. They are accepting submission of 8,000 words with a limit of two stories per author. There is no entry fee. The winner will receive $3,500. The deadline is January 31.  Submit online here. The Fourth Annual Interdisciplinary LAS Graduate Student Conference is happening this spring and the deadline to submit is fast approaching! The conference takes place March 3 on the Lincoln Park Campus and is an opportunity for graduate students from across the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences to showcase their work and interact with work from students across departments. Students may propose individual papers or poster presentations. Monthly online litmag, Bodega Magazine is launching their first writing contest, and the deadline is fast approaching! The contest is open for fiction and poetry.
