The MFA Creative Writing Program of Old Dominion University and Barely South Review are pleased to announce The Norton Girault Literary Prize Inaugural 2012 Competition is now open The Norton Girault Literary Prize will be offered in 2012 for FICTION (annual prize will alternate among Fiction, Poetry, and Nonfiction genres)– one prize will go to a single short story up to 25 pages (double-spaced).  The winning story will receive $1,000 and publication in Barely South Review. Playboy magazine (yes, that Playboy) is now accepting submissions for their 2012 College Fiction Contest. First prize for the winning story is $3000 and publication in Playboy magazine. Second prize is $500 and third prize is $200.The contest is open to all college students regardless of age. Deadline for submissions is February 15th, 2012, and submissions should be typed, double-spaced, and 25 pages or fewer. Only online submissions will be accepted. Congratulations to two of our DePaul English faculty for their recent accomplishments! Prof. Hannah Pittard’s short story, “Orion’s Belt,” was read as the opening selection at the Selected Shorts event last week at Symphony Space in New York City. The story is one of thirteen commissioned from “emerging writers” to open the Symphony Space events held between October and June.  The event will be broadcast on NPR at a date yet to be announced. We are pleased to announce that graduate student Meredith Boe and undergrad Sally Wiegel have been selected as editors for Threshold Literary Journal; and that grad students Colin Harris and Marcy Farrey have been selected as hosts for the Radio DePaul creative writing show.  Both Threshold and the Radio DePaul show will be looking for great student work quickly into the Winter Quarter.  So take some time this winter break to put your poems, essays and stories through one more draft, and start getting ready to apply. Just when you thought DePaul English Graduate Students couldn’t possibly rack up any more awards and accomplishments in just one quarter, Ex Libris is happy to announce two great new pieces of student news: Congratulations to current M.A.E. student Mary Parisoe, whose new one-act play, The Last Vagabond, has won $500 and a reading sometime in the new year at The Arts Club of Washington, DC. Happy Halloween, everyone! Remember the Guild Literary Complex Prose Awards contest? Well, today we are very excited to announce that current M.A.W.P. student Lisa Applegate has been selected as one of 3 semifinalists for the 2011 Prose Award for Short Non-Fiction. Not only that, but Lisa’s piece is an edited version of one  she wrote for Brenda Fowler’s class on writing in Chicago last winter quarter.
