Join the English Department in celebrating our graduating students and honoring Francesca Royster for her amazing leadership as chair since 2015! The event takes place Friday, June 2nd from 3:00-5:00 pm in A&L 2nd Floor Atrium.

Congratulations to MAE Mihaela Stoica who will be presenting a paper on ambivalent masculinity in James Tiptree, Jr’s novella “Huston, Houston, Do You Read?” at the 2017 Science Fiction Research Association annual conference. The five day conference hosted by the University of California at Riverside takes place from June 27 to July 1 with the theme “Unknown Pasts/Unseen Futures.” Find a full schedule of presenters is available here. As the quarter inches closer to summer break, Ex Libris would like to update folks on a few awesome accomplishments from the last few weeks. First, a kudos to Dave Welch who will be spending part of his summer at the Sewanee Writer’s Conference, and will have his tuition paid as their Tennessee Williams Scholar. Great work Dave! Next, two professors in the department are recent gran winners! Rebecca Johns Trissler was awarded a  Quality of Instruction Council (QIC) Competitive Instructional Grant, and Paula McQuade was awarded a University Research Council (URC) Competitive Research Grant. The launch for Crook & Folly’s 37th edition will be Thursday, May 25! The event will celebrate the latest release of DePaul’s award winning journal of art and literature. The event takes place from 5:00-7:00 pm on Arts & Letters Third Floor Atrium. One the first museum’s dedicated explicitly to celebrating the work, lives, and legacies of American writers will be opening in Chicago this month! The American Writers Museum will open to the public on May 18. The modern museum features not only some rare literary items – including Jack Kerouac’s On the Road scroll – but also a decidedly modern approach to museum layout. The AWM will incorporate touch screens, digital archives, and recorded tours to explore the long history of writing and literature in this country. Ex Libris would like to extend congratulations to two professors with exciting news this Spring Quarter. First off, a huge congrats and a best wishes to adjunct faculty member Chris Eagle! Chris has accepted a full-time position as a Senior Lecturer in the Medical Humanities at Emory University’s Center for the Study of Human Health. For the past three years, Chris has taught a variety of courses at DePaul and been an essential part in our academic environment. This Friday, April 28, 2017 the DePaul English Department invites you to attend our eighth annual student-run conference from 10:00 am – 4:30 pm in Arts and Letters Hall! The Spring English Conference is an annual daylong event in which DePaul English undergraduate and graduate students showcase their  academic and creative work from the previous year. The always wonderful DePaul student-run art and literary journal, Crook & Folly is currently seeking to fill their two positions for 2018 Editors-in-Chief. Applications are now available for Spring Quarter 2017 Partial Tuition Scholarships (PTS) Awards. Find out more here, and download the application here. The M.A. in English and M.A. in Writing and Publishing programs are offering Partial Tuition Scholarships (PTS) to recognize the outstanding academic achievement of students in the English department’s two graduate programs. Partial Tuition Scholarships provide a partial reimbursement for tuition paid for 2017 spring graduate courses in English taken toward the MAE and MAWP degrees.
