Crook & Folly Submissions Now Open

Submissions for poetry, creative nonfiction, fiction, dramatic literature, and micro-prose are now open!  Any submissions sent in by 11:59 pm on February 12th will be given feedback and then have a chance to edit and resubmit their piece. After February 12th, all submissions will be received as is and the deadline is March 12th.  Submissions to multiple genres are allowed; however, please include the genre you are submitting to in the email’s subject line. Shoutout to Fruit Bat — A Press Started and Led by DePaul Alum!

Fruit Bat is a Chapbook Press co-based in Chicago and Los Angeles, started by two DePaul alum and previous roommates. As posted on their About Page, they publish work that “embraces foraging: an unusual collection of ideas from a diverse set of perspectives with a basket of different emotions.” They will release their first three limited edition chapbooks in summertime 2021. Submissions open February 1 – February 28, 2021. Be sure to check out and submit to Fruit Bat Press & Lillet Press in support of our former students (and awesome new endeavors)!

Call for Submissions ft. a DePaul Alum’s New Press!

Introducing Lillet (pronounced lee-lay after the French aperitif, that stimulates the appetite). Lillet publishes chapbooks. Prose, poetry, sketch/comedy scripts, some combination, or some new genre you’ve invented.  Their first open reading period is open from NOW until May 1. Submit on their website: lilletpress.com There is no reading fee or set number of manuscripts selected for publication this round 50 pg max. Congratulations to Carolyn Goffman!

Congratulations to Carolyn Goffman for the publication of her new book As Senior Lecturer in the Department of English, Professor Goffman specializes in postcolonial literature and theory. Her new book, Mary Mills Patrick’s Cosmopolitan Mission and the Constantinople Woman’s College (Lexington Books, 2020), follows Mary Mills Patrick, the president of the college for 34 years. The book explores decades of transformation (from 1870s to 1930s) as her life shifts professionally, personally, and religiously. The book comes out this Friday, January 15th 2021. Book Contest — January 2021

Dynamo Verlag, a boutique publisher of poetry and fiction, has launched its first-ever book contest. The contest is open to book-length manuscripts of poetry or prose. The entry fee is $15 and the winner will receive a $500 advance against royalties and publication in Fall 2021. The contest is ending soon! The deadline for entries is January 31, 2021. Partial Tuition Scholarship Deadline: January 31

The M.A. in English, M.A. in Literature and Publishing, M.A. in Writing and Publishing, and M.F.A. in Writing and Publishing programs are offering Partial Tuition Scholarships (PTS) to recognize the outstanding academic achievement of students in the English department’s three graduate programs. Partial Tuition Scholarships provide a partial reimbursement for tuition paid for 2021 Winter graduate courses in English taken toward the MAE, MALP, MAWP, and MFA degrees.
