The Missouri Review Announces the 2021 Perkoff Prize

The Missouri Review is excited to announce the re-vamping of the Perkoff Prize, the original benefactor of which, Dr. Gerald Thomas Perkoff, was Professor Emeritus at the University of Missouri School of Medicine in the Department of Family and Community Medicine.  This year, the contest is open for submissions in fiction, nonfiction and poetry; entries are sought that engage in evocative and compelling ways with health and medicine. Submissions for poetry, creative nonfiction, fiction, dramatic literature, and micro-prose are now open!  Any submissions sent in by 11:59 pm on February 12th will be given feedback and then have a chance to edit and resubmit their piece. After February 12th, all submissions will be received as is and the deadline is March 12th.  Submissions to multiple genres are allowed; however, please include the genre you are submitting to in the email’s subject line. DISQUIET

Submissions are now open for the DISQUIET Literary Prize! This contest is for writing in any genre, by a writer who has not published more than one book. The winners in each genre (nonfiction, fiction, poetry) will be published. The grand prize winner will receive a full scholarship including tuition, lodging, and a $1,000 travel stipend to Lisbon in 2021. DePaul literary magazine Crook & Folly is hosting an open mic reading on Thursday, April 16. The reading will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Room 115 of Richardson Library. Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to attend and share their fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and micro prose pieces. Complimentary donuts and coffee will be up for grabs.

Two Cities Review, a new literary magazine, is accepting submissions for its prose contest. The contest theme is Cities Gone Wrong. Crab Orchard Review, the literary journal of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, is accepting submissions from graduate and undergraduate students for the Charles Johnson Fiction Award, the Rafael Torch Literary Nonfiction Award, and the Allison Joseph Poetry Award. The winner in each category will receive $1,000 and publication. There is a $5 entry fee. The submission deadline is this Friday (February 20, 2015). Phoebe: Journal of Literature and Art, a literary journal of George Mason University’s MFA Program, is accepting submissions for its annual fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry contests. The submission deadline is March 1, 2015.  Judges Ramona Ausubel (fiction), Roxane Gay (nonfiction), and Brian Teare (poetry) will choose the winners in each category. Winners receive $850 and publication in an online issue of Phoebe.
