Yesterday on Ex Libris we featured an event hosted by the Guild Literary Complex which called for students from each of Chicago’s creative writing graduate programs to read at an open mic. Today we are happy to announce that two students have stepped forward to represent DePaul’s MAWP: Mellissa Gyimah and Jim Shadid. Please join the Guild Complex for this open mic event (see yesterday’s post and/or the flyer for details) on Wednesday April 11th to support Jim and Mellissa– and bring a student ID!

All are invited to join DePaul’s Center for African and Black Diaspora Studies for a performance on Tuesday, April 10th, titled DREAMWEAVER: THE WORKS OF LANGSTON HUGHES.  Award-winning actor and poet David Mills will be presenting a one-person dramatic rendition of Langston Hughes’s poems and short stories of the 1920s through the 1960s Harlem Renaissance period.  The event will be held from 6:30-8:30 pm, in Dorothy Day Room 400, at the Richardson Library.

Author of a collection of poems, The Dream Detective, David Mills has performed on stages around the world.  He was featured in the PBS documentary “Slammin” and has recorded his work with RCA Records.
