Call for Submissions: Devil’s Lake 2016 Driftless Prize

Devil’s Lake, the graduate literary journal published by the MFA candidates at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is accepting online entries for their annual Driftless Prize in Fiction and Poetry. Winners will receive $1,000 and publication in the Spring 2017 issue. The entry fee $15 and all entries are considered for publication. The deadline to submit is October 31st. Submissions are currently low, so students chances at winning are high! The Mythical Imagery of America’s Lost War in Vietnam

The History Department will be hosting “Veterans Spat On, Called ‘Baby Killers’: The Mythical Imagery of America’s Lost War in Vietnam” on Monday, October 24th in Richardson Library Room 400 (Dorothy Day Room) at 6:00pm. The event is cosponsored by the English Department and Big Shoulders Books and students are encouraged to attend!

Past and Present: New Directions in Victorian Society Conference!

The Loyola University Chicago Victorian Society (LUCVS), would like to invite you their first annual day conference, Past and Present: New Directions in Victorian Society on October 29th at Loyola’s Lakeshore campus. Conference presentations will cover a number of issues concerning how the field can and should study Victorian literature. Plenary speakers include representatives from the V21 collective and the keynote speaker is Dr. Elaine Hadley from University of Chicago. There is no registration fee. Columbia Journal Winter Contest

The Columbia Journal is now accepting submissions of nonfiction, fiction, and poetry for their 2016 Winter Contest. The winners in each category will receive cash prizes of $500 and have their winning works published in the spring print edition of the journal. Deadline for submissions is December 12, 2016.
